Midway through the lens of Kittipong Janthasang

A large percentage of the permanent residents of Midway are Thai workers, hired by a company called Chugach which provides many services to the island, from maintenance, to food and lodging.

kittipong_1Kittipong Janthasang is a Bangkok native who has lived on Midway for three years. We can find him pulling invasive weeds from the fields and also bartending at the island’s only pub during its brief hours of operation. Kittipong’s passion, however, is wildlife photography. In his spare time, he goes out with his camera and patiently and delicately captures intimate portraits of the natural beauty of Midway. Amazing photos that, until now, were confined to his laptop, and shared only with his friends on the island. It has been an honor for us at Midway Journey to discover the excellent body of photographic work by Kittipong, and to have the opportunity to post a selection of his images online for the first time, in the form of this slide show.

Kittipong’s photographic work conveys a contagious, heartfelt reverence for nature, and offers the viewer a rare and invaluable look into the immense natural wealth of Midway.

Thank you Midway for discovering Kittipong and letting this site be a place for his photos to get out into the world. Intimate reverance and a love that is so palpable. And thank you Kittipong for your heartfelt connection with this land and those creatures who dwell here. Your photos have touched my heart. I see even more clearly now. And I have an open heart.

This was really amazing. I am touched that I could witness this beauty, if only from a computer screen.

These are truly exceptional photographs: simple, truthful and filled with life.
They reflect a person who is living amongst his subjects not visiting them.
    Beautiful!

There is one word poking for attention – Amazing! It’s Saturday morning and I’m currently in Sweden a million miles away. I’m feeling immense gratitude that the Midway team has found their way to Kittipong and his wonderful photographs. Also, I follow the Midway journey with great interest. This is a hugely important journey in many different ways, and on many different levels. Thank you!!

Hey, I’m glad you found out about Bob’s photography skills! When I was volunteering out there there was some effort to get him his own blog so he could post some of his work, but I don’t know if he took to it or not. Bob’s one of the nicest dudes at Midway, I’m glad you gave him some coverage.
